Danville N-G office open, suspicious package cleared

DANVILLE - The News-Gazette's office on Walnut Street in Danville is open again this afternoon after a suspicious package was safely removed by law enforcement officials.

A suitcase was left in front of the building, 137 N. Walnut St., prompting Danville police to evacuate the NG building and two adjacent buildings, the Danville Township Food Pantry, and an auction house at the corner of Walnut and Harrison streets. The suitcase was found by NG office staff about 11 a.m. this morning tucked behind a yellow newspaper rack that sits next to the front entrance of the building.

With the help of the UI bomb squad, Danville police were able to safely open the black suitcase that, upon initial inspection, contained children's clothing. Police confiscated the suitcase for further inspection.
