Ivesdale puts weight limit on road

IVESDALE — Heavy vehicles can no longer drive on a street going north out of town.

Earlier this week, the village board passed an ordinance putting a maximum weight limit of 10 tons on Sanford Street from County Road 500N south to Johnson Street and on First Street, the name of the road north of County Road 500N. The ordinance contains an exemption for any vehicles servicing the farmland adjacent to the road, any emergency vehicle, any vehicle used for snow removal or street maintenance, any school transportation vehicle and any public utility vehicle providing service or repairs.

There will be a fine of $50 for any weight exceeding the posted limit, plus $75 for every 500 pounds or fraction thereof for any weight exceeding those spelled out in the Illinois Vehicle Code, depending on the distance between axles.

Village Administrator Jim Brewer said the new rules are intended to "preserve the integrity" of the road.

It will cost the village a little less than $100 to post signs about the new weight limits.
