Updated: Heat, flood advisories issued for area counties

New 10:30 a.m. Friday:

A flood advisory has been issued for Ford and southern Iroquois counties until 2 p.m. Friday.

Friday's rain is expected to cause some minor flooding of streams and low-lying areas.  You should avoid driving over a flooded area and secure outdoor items so they're not swept away.

New 5:40 p.m. Thursday:

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Iroquois County until 11 p.m. Thursday.

A heat advisory has been issued for Macon, Moultrie, Coles and Shelby counties from 1 p.m. Friday to  7 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service said the heat index will be in the 100 to 107 degree range in the afternoon hours.

You should take precautions to beat the heat:  drink plenty of water, limit time outside, wear light and loose-fitting clothes, and be sure to check on pets, kids and the elderly.
