Bement approves golf cart ordinance
BEMENT — Golf carts are officially coming to Bement streets.
With the state now allowing carts to cross some state highways, the village board has approved a golf cart ordinance — just one year after tabling the issue.
"State says no, the answer is no. State says yes, the answer is yes," board member Robert Stevens Jr. said.
The board was wary of adopting a new ordinance if the carts weren't going to be able to cross Highway 105, which runs through town. The ordinance, permitting the use of carts on village streets, was approved unanimously with little to no fanfare.
"Any cheers from the crowd?" asked President Pat Tieman in jest over a longtime issue finally seeing resolution. His comment drew some laughs and light applause.
