Mattis, Prospect repairs start Monday

CHAMPAIGN — Two major roads through town will get much-anticipated makeovers beginning Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation on Monday will begin resurfacing pothole-pocked Mattis Avenue from Bradley Avenue to Bloomington Road and Prospect Avenue between Springfield Avenue and Bloomington Road. It's expected that the repairs will be complete by Oct. 1.

One lane of traffic will be open in each direction during the project. State officials say drivers should exercise special care as slow-moving construction trucks will enter and leave the open lane of traffic.

Open Road Paving Company of Urbana won the state contract. Those sections of the two state routes fall under the jurisdiction of IDOT, not the city.
