C-UMTD touts solar panels
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District said it hopes to save thousands of dollars in energy costs through a recently-completed project of installing solar panels at the district's maintenance facility.
The installation of about 1,200 panels on the roof of the structure began last November.
C-UMTD Sustainability Planner Jane Sullivan said the panels could potentially save the district about $35,000 per year.
Sullivan added that the solar array created by the panels is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 270 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents per year.
