Property taxes due on Tuesday

URBANA — Next Tuesday, Sept. 2, is the deadline to make the second installment of property tax payments in Champaign County, according to County Treasurer Dan Welch.

A Sept. 2 postmark will be accepted as on time, for payments made by mail. Payments made by mail should be addressed to: PO Box 9, Urbana, IL 61803-0009.

Payments also can be made in person at the treasurer's office at the Brookens Center, 1776 E. Washington St., Urbana. Office hours will be extended next Tuesday until 5 p.m. for payments. They also can be made at the 24-hour drop box in the south circle drive of the Brookens Center.

By law, interest on late payments is calculated at 1.5 percent per month, and will be assessed on payments made after Sept. 2.

The Brookens office will also be open earlier on 9/2.

It's 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. rather than 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
