Gifford meeting set on RTHS ballot question

GIFFORD — The Gifford school district will hold an informational meeting to explain an advisory question on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The question asks residents of the Gifford Grade School district who also reside in the Rantoul Township High School district whether they would like to detach from RTHS to enable them to send their students to Armstrong Township High School.

Rantoul residents and residents of the Gifford area who are already living in the Armstrong district do not get to vote on the question.

Proponents of detaching say it would save Gifford area residents money because of Armstrong's lower property tax rate.

If the question is approved by a large enough majority, the petition would then go to the regional board of trustees, which would conduct a public hearing.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the grade school gymnasium.
