Authorities investigating fatality

LeROY — Police are investigating a fatality that happened early Sunday morning in rural LeRoy.

According to authorities, the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, LeRoy police and the LeRoy Fire Department were called to a report of a man lying on the side of the LeRoy-Lexington Blacktop, also known as County Road 2600 East, near County Road 1000 North, at 2:50 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, they found an unconscious 26-year-old man and took him to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said the man was pronounced dead in the emergency department at 3:54 a.m. Sunday.

Kimmerling said the man is a resident of McLean County, but he won’t be identified until the next of kin has been contacted.

An autopsy will be performed today, Kimmerling said.

The sheriff’s and coroner’s offices are continuing their investigation.

Anybody who was in the area where the man was discovered between 2 and 4 a.m. Sunday is asked to call McLean County sheriff’s Detective Sara Bernabei at 309-888-4940.
