Wet weather on the way

CHAMPAIGN — A bit of stormy weather could dampen the tail end of some Labor Day celebrations.

The National Weather Service says scattered thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front Monday night. Severe weather is not expected, but the service is calling for a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in portions of central and East Central Illinois.

For the rest of this week, "isolated thunderstorms will be possible from time to time as temperature and humidity levels rise. The next significant chance for thunderstorms will hold off until Friday."

High temperatures this week are forecast in the mid- to upper-80s, with temperatures reaching as high as 90 degrees on Thursday.
