Chatsworth man killed in crash in Ford County

PAXTON — A Chatsworth man died when his car struck a tree west of Paxton early Sunday morning.

Adam C. Masterson, 39, was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m. at the scene, Ford County Coroner Doug Wallace said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The accident was reported by a passerby at 3:33 a.m., Wallace said.

Wallace said it appears Mr. Masterson was driving west on Illinois 9 in a 2002 Chrysler Concorde Limited when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road east of Illinois 115 and struck a tree head-on.

Mr. Masterson was the only person in the car. He was wearing a seat belt, and the airbags did deploy, Wallace said.

The accident remains under investigation by District 21 Illinois State  Police and the coroner’s office.
