Carroll fire district: Calls for donations a scam

The Carroll Fire Protection District is warning residents that a scammer is soliciting money claiming it will benefit the district.

The Carroll district does not ask for donations, said David Roberts, a board member of the district.

He said board members were told last week that Fire Chief James Green's mother received a telephone solicitation seeking a donation for "equipment and training gear."

"She said, 'I don't think so. My son is fire chief,'" Roberts said.

It's the second call in recent weeks that the board is aware of, he said.

"This is a scam. The Carroll Fire Department is not now, nor has it been, soliciting funds," Roberts said.
