Urbana mayor: Senate contender?

Urbana mayor: Senate contender?

Al Klein and Frank Wright, the Democratic Party chairmen of Champaign and Vermilion counties, are staying mum about whom they're considering for appointment to the Illinois Senate seat being vacated by Mike Frerichs.

But one name has popped up.

While refusing to say so outright, Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing hinted broadly that she's among the gaggle of would-be legislators interested in the job.

"I might be (an applicant). You never know," said Prussing, who said becoming a state senator makes sense because Urbana's problems are mostly caused by the state of Illinois.

That would appear to be an obvious reference to state legislation changing the property taxation rules for hospitals, including Urbana's Carle.

Although safely ensconced in the mayor's office, Prussing has experience as a legislator, having served on the Champaign County Board and in the Illinois House of Representatives. She also served multiple terms as county auditor.

She's taking down Urbana, why not take down the state.

Wait... She's ran Urbana into the ground, ready  to represent the whole area?

Wait... It's the state's way, promote those who fail.

Wait...no this is it: Urbana has already jumped on the grenade of failure for central Illinois, let's keep her here before she ruins the rest of central Illinois.

If Urbana frees itself of her, at least the city could start moving forward again.

Just think... something as simple as potholes would be filled again.

In the past few months, it is becoming obvious that the members of the City Council have had enough of this rubbish, and are finally starting to push back.

A perfect way to make yourselves the most hated men in Champaign and Vermilion counties...appoint that nutbag to the open senate seat! Do not unleash her can of crazy on everyone else...keep her in Urbana where they obviously like her - they keep voting her back in there.

Is she serious! She can't even have the potholes filled in Urbana! What a nutball! How she KEEPS maintaining her job as a MAYOR amazes me. I pray she quits as mayor and runs and LOSES! BYE FELICIA!!!

Nut job traffic circle lady?  You have got to be kidding.

Maybe she'll use Urbana residents as her references for recommendations.  Wouldn't we all just LOVE to give our opinions of her as our city's leader?  What a laugh!

On one hand, I'd love for Urbana to be rid of her "leadership."  On the other hand, do we really want to subject the whole state to her B.S.?

Oh my, I needed a good laugh...

The state's loss would be Urbana's gain.

Well said.

Urbana's problems are caused by her ineffective leadership, not the State. If she truly cared at all about Urbana, she woud resign as Mayor and take her name out of the Senator sorting hat.  We have a senator who vacated the office for two years to run for State office; we certainly don't need a new Senator who is simply vacant.

Having confidence in one's self is usually a good thing, but not when it's more than anyone else has in you.

Delusions of grandeur, for sure.

Please God, let this be true.

This is great:

Carol will be the last in Senority.  She will find   out who her real boss is...the guy she as opposed to.  Madigan.

Mayor for Life?

She can change the Carle law  personally.

right.

I started to say she could never get elected, but hey:  that's what installations are for!

Ingenious if all you want to do is stick it to the electorate.

Profile Picture

So,...let's see.... Prussing was Champaign County Auditor. She was Illinois State Representative in the 90's. She is Mayor of Urbana. And she wants to be State Senator. If appointed as Senator, will she qualify for 4 pensions then? Or is it because of Carle she won't get a fourth pension?

Oh my God.  This is terrifying.

I've never been so happy to live in Savoy.

parkmymeterelsewhere wrote on December 12, 2014 at 7:12 pm

How can someone from Savoy be so happy when the Urbana Mayor diverted all of the rail safety funds that could have been used for the curtis road crossing in Savoy on the disgusting Olympia drive project?  As usual-- the concerned taxpayer/voter has not paid attention to what is going on.  The former county board rep for Savoy used to SLEEP during board meetings!!!
