CHAMPAIGN — A recent Champaign Central High School graduate was killed in a train/SUV crash Friday night.

Dominique Donta Phillips, 20, of Champaign, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:10 p.m. on Friday.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Saturday afternoon the preliminary cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force trauma.

The final cause of death is pending toxicology studies.

According to the Champaign Police Department, about 7:40 p.m., an Amtrak train traveling north hit a westbound sport-utility vehicle that had gone around the crossing arm at Bradley Avenue.

An inquest may be held at a later date. The death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Champaign police.
