Lighting water heater pilot light leads to mobile home fire

URBANA — Five people escaped unharmed from a mobile home fire Wednesday night outside the Urbana city limits.

Crews from the Carroll, Edge-Scott, Eastern Prairie and Savoy fire departments were called to a blaze at 7 Cedric Drive at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a fire department report, a man living in the mobile home was trying to ignite a water heater’s pilot light when the fire suddenly started.

When firefighters arrived, they saw embers coming out from the underpinning of the mobile home.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 9:05 p.m. and left the scene at 9:17 p.m.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000.
