Former Willard Airport manager sticking around to help with transition

The former manager at Willard Airport in Savoy said his time in the aviation field is coming to a close, but he still plans to stick around for another year or two.

Steve Wanzek, who led the airport for the last 12 years, is now Willard's associate director, serving under Gene Cossey.  Cossey was brought in this year as a part of plans to revitalize the airport.

Wanzek said he'll be passing along his pearls of wisdom to the new leadership.

Wanzek added that he'll be devoting time to six or so projects during his final months at the airport, such as installing an electronic flight information display and upgrading the facility's cameras. He said he'll be associate director until August of next year then decide his next steps.  Wanzek said his decision will be based in part by how many salaries the University of Illinois is able to afford for airport management.
