In 1916: Members of the Womens Christian Temperance Union are predicting that voters in Champaign Township will overwhelmingly reject making this a "wet" area. For the last two weeks the temperance women have been conducting a thorough house-to-house canvass in order to get a line on public sentiment.

In 1966: Frank "Porky" Porcaro, who recently resigned under fire as an investigator for Secretary of State Paul Powell, surrendered today to Sangamon County authorities on a charge of bigamy.

In 2001: Illinois defeated Kansas, 80-64, Friday in San Antonio to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA basketball tournament.
