In 1916, 68 students who make Champaign-Urbana their home will graduate from the University of Illinois this spring. The list is not final but for now 38 of the graduates are from Urbana and 30 are from Champaign.

In 1966, if there is a national Republican leader today it must be former Vice President Richard Nixon, who came to Decatur Sunday to help the re-election effort of U.S. Rep. William Springer of Champaign. But Nixon said he is refusing to look beyond the elections this November. "I saw the cost of division in 1964," Nixon said. "It cost us 36 seats in the House. I will do nothing and say nothing about 1968 until after 1966."

In 2001, Stephen D. Wacaser, publisher of a popular basketball talent newsletter, admitted in federal court that he is overwhelmed with gambling debts. Wacaser, 49, of Decatur, was charged in federal court with a complaint of bank larceny.
