News-Gazette outsourcing printing, packaging

CHAMPAIGN — News-Gazette Media announced Monday that it will be phasing out its local printing and packaging operations in the coming months.

At the end of the transition, all printing and packaging services will be provided by the Journal Star in Peoria. The Journal Star offers more modern equipment and facilities, which allow for improved print reproduction quality at a lower cost.

John Reed, News-Gazette Media CEO and Publisher, said: "Decisions of this nature are always difficult to make. Over the past year, we have explored multiple internal and external options for the future of our production needs. In the end, I believe that outsourcing this facet of our operations will deliver the most value to our subscribers and advertisers."

The change will result in the elimination of approximately 35 full- and part-time positions. The exact timing of the transition is still being determined, but it is expected to be complete by mid-summer.

So, the News-Gazette is going to be doing the bulk of their operation in another city. Taking jobs from 35+ people and sending a bunch of money to another city.

I think I'm done with the News-Gazette. Advertisers, if you advertise in the News-Gazette I'll not be spending any of my money there because it just going to be sent to another city.

There will literally be thosands of people affected by this. Thats a BUNCH of money not being spent in this town.

News-Gazette, heres just another nail in your coffin.

Make sure to keep spending your money so it can be shipped to another city.

I expect News-Gazette sales will plumet. Y'all didn't think this through.

When the News-Gazette takes jobs away from this town,  I will be dropping my subscription. The people that print this paper support this town and pay taxes and shop here. Kind of heartless to kick long time employees to the curb!

Bra adamant, If you stop the paper how will you know what advertisers to keep from spending your money at?
