ALLERTON — A 55-year-old man died and another was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover Monday morning.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Randy Leeman of Paris was driving north on Illinois 49 at Champaign County Road 200N near Allerton when he failed to negotiate a curve and exited the right side of the road, Illinois State Police said.

His blue 2001 Chevrolet Malibu hit a ditch and went airborne, flipping over multiple times before landing upright in a ditch, police said.

He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:18 a.m., Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said. An autopsy showed that he died of multiple blunt-force trauma wounds.

His passenger, a 22-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
At this time, it’s unknown whether they were wearing seat belts, and the accident continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office and the state police.

There are two curves on 49 near Allerton that need immediate attention. This curve in Allerton and a curve 1 mile west of Allerton. They require you to obey the posted limit and pay attention to the road, That's two things that people no longer do. The railroad no longer runs through this area and that is the problem with the curve 1 mile west of Allerton. It was designed to accommodate cars and trains and can only be described as a very tight curve. Many vehicles have over turned on this dangerous curve over the years. It's time the State took some of their Chicago funds and fixed this problem road before more people die.
