3 hurt in 3-vehicle crash near Tolono

TOLONO — Three people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon with injuries they received in a three-vehicle collision near Tolono.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson said the accident occurred at 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of county roads 900 N and 1200 E, which is South First Street extended.

Preliminary information is that Deborah McNeilus, 67, of Mattoon was headed north on 1200 E, stopped for the stop sign, then continued north, mistakenly thinking it was a four-way stop.

Her Prius was then hit in the driver's side by a pickup truck driven by Derek Wilsey, 36, of Tolono.

The impact of the crash sent McNeilus' car into a ditch, and caused Wilsey to hit a westbound car head-on that was stopped on 900 N waiting to turn south.

That car, a Grand Prix, was driven by Kaylee David, 21, of Tolono. Her car spun around after being struck.

Apperson said McNeilus, David and a third person who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, were all taken to Carle Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

McNeilus was listed in good condition Wednesday while a hospital spokeswoman said no information was available on David.

Apperson said Wilsey declined medical treatment.

McNeilus was issued a ticket for failure to yield at an intersection. David was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license.

Tolono firefighters responded to help with the injured.
