Clinton nuclear plant back at 100% power

CLINTON — The Clinton nuclear power plant is back online after an outage that lasted less than 48 hours.

The Exelon Generation plant, about 35 miles west of Champaign, was taken offline around 11 p.m. Saturday when part of a system that delivers water to the plant's reactor wasn't performing correctly, said company spokesman Brett Nauman.

But repairs were made Sunday and Monday and the nuclear plant was back online at 6:18 p.m. Monday.

It was operating at 100 percent power by Tuesday, Nauman said.

The single-reactor nuclear plant is located on Clinton Lake, about 6 miles east of Clinton. Opened in 1987, it produces 1,069 megawatts at full power, enough to supply electricity to about 1 million homes.
