Urbana police probing food store robbery

URBANA — Urbana police are looking for a man who robbed a small food store in that city Monday night.

Sgt. Matt Bain said a man entered the Best of Africa's, 208 W. Griggs St. just after 7 p.m. Monday. He raised his shirt to reveal a gun in his waistband and demanded cash from the female clerk.

He left with an unknown amount of cash. The clerk was not physically harmed.

The robber is described as a black male, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, white shirt, gray pants and a black hat with gold writing on it.

Anyone with information is asked to call Urbana police at 384-2320 or Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS, 373tips.com, or through a free app for smart phones called P3 Tips.Tipsters are always completely anonymous when contacting Crime Stoppers. All tips submitted are electronically stripped of any identifying information and processed by a third-party answering service, not law enforcement.

Cash rewards of up to $1,000 are paid for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters will never be asked their names and are given a secret code number to use when checking on a possible reward.
