Danville school board votes to put food director on unpaid leave

DANVILLE — A Danville schools director has been removed from his job.

The school board on Wednesday night voted unanimously to put Greg Lazzell, the food-services director for the past six-plus years, on unpaid leave.

When asked why, board President Bill Dobbles and Superintendent Alicia Geddis declined to comment, saying it's a personnel matter.

Dobbles said a special meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at which time they will discuss his possible dismissal.

Both Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason and Vermilion County State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy declined to comment when asked whether Lazzell is being investigated for any wrongdoing.

Lazzell stepped into his position in April 2011. His 2016-17 salary was $78,195.
