Champaign parolee facing drug charge

URBANA — A Champaign man on parole for a drug conviction has been charged with another drug offense after police found suspected cocaine on him.

Kyle L. Greer, 26, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Hedge Road, was charged Friday with a single count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine following his arrest Thursday afternoon.

A Champaign police report said Greer was a passenger in a car stopped by Champaign police in the 700 block of West University Avenue about 3:25 p.m.

Because Greer was on parole for a 2016 drug conviction, he was removed from the car.

The report said he broke free from officers and tried to run but was quickly caught.

In the spot where he had been standing, police found a bag of cocaine on the ground and another on Greer. Both bags, which weighed a total of 13 grams, field-tested positive as cocaine, the report said.

Although the charge is a Class 1 felony, if convicted, Greer faces between six to 30 years in prison because he has four prior drug convictions.

Judge Brett Olmstead set Greer's bond at $15,000 and told him to be back in court Nov. 7.
