Fire at Urbana house causes $60,000 in damage

URBANA — No one was injured — and one cat had to be rescued — after flames caused extensive damage to an Urbana home on Monday.

Fire chief Brian Nightlinger said crews were called to the 2000 block of Cureton Drive around 2:45 p.m., where they found flames on the outside of the home. Soon thereafter, they discovered the fire had extended inside through the eaves of the home.

Nightlinger said the back of the home sustained extensive damage and the inside sustained smoke damage. His initial estimate of the damage was $60,000.

There was no immediate word on a cause of the fire.
