Police say they've found body of missing Danville woman

DANVILLE — Police say they think they have found the body of a Danville woman whose boyfriend was charged Tuesday with her murder.

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said early Wednesday, detectives recovered the remains of a person they believe to be Barbara Rose and are working with Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden to determine positive identification.

“Several tests remain to be completed, at which time the coroner will be able to provide verifiable information on the person. The detectives, along with the coroner’s office, have worked very hard over the last several days to move this case to a completion,” Thomason said.

Danville police are continuing to investigate this case, added Thomason, who would not disclose where the body was found, except that it was in Danville.

Ms. Rose, 50, was reported missing Oct. 24 by her adult sons. On Tuesday, her boyfriend, 26-year-old Ocheil D. Keys, was charged in Vermilion County Circuit Court with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealing a homicidal death.

At his arraignment, Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said witness interviews and video and forensic evidence, including blood, that was collected during the investigation into Ms. Rose's disappearance revealed that on or about Oct. 22, Keys shot Ms. Rose, which led to her death.

Lacy also said that in the days after Ms. Rose’s death, Keys removed her body from her home and concealed it. She added that Keys is a convicted felon who was sentenced to prison for separate residential burglary and burglary cases in 2009. At the time of Ms. Rose's death, he was out on bond and awaiting trial in a 2016 incident in which he’s charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child under 13 and felony possession of a weapon.

Keys is being held in the Vermilion County jail on $5 million bond.

Thomsan said no other information is being released regarding the recovery of the body believed to be Ms. Rose, and the coroner will provide an update as soon as one is available.
