Stabbing at Vermilion County sports bar sends man to hospital

HEGELER — One man was hospitalized and another was taken to jail following a stabbing at a Vermilion County sports bar late this morning.

Capt. Mike Hartshorn of the Vermilion County Sheriff's Office said the stabbing occurred about 11:25 a.m. at Scoreboards Sports Bar and Grill, 2526 Georgetown Road in unincorporated Hegeler, between Tilton and Westville.

Hartshorn said the male victim was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. His condition wasn't available this afternoon.

Hartshorn said a suspect was arrested and taken into custody. He declined to identify the man, but said he could appear at his initial court hearing on Wednesday afternoon.

Hartshorn also declined to say whether authorities know what led to the stabbing.

"We're just in the beginning stages of our investigation now," he said.
