Champaign woman accused of having heroin for sale at home

URBANA — A Champaign woman who allegedly had heroin for sale in her home is due back in court next month after being criminally charged Friday.

Yasmine Nichols, 24, of the 1300 block of Hanover Drive was arraigned on a Class 2 felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Assistant State's Attorney Jilmala Rogers told Judge John Kennedy that members of the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force served a search warrant at Nichols' home Thursday after having previously purchased heroin there.

In the house they found five individual bags that contained less than a gram of heroin, three digital scales, packaging materials, a cutting agent for the drug and $1,467.

Nichols was released from the county jail after posting 10 percent of the $5,000 bond that Kennedy set. He told her to be back in court Dec. 19.

If convicted, Nichols faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
