One injured in shooting in northwest Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating a shooting Friday night in northwest Champaign that sent one man to the hospital.

Spokeswoman LaEisha Meaderds said police were called to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive at 9:07 p.m. Friday on reports of multiple shots fired.

Preliminary investigation shows that a 25-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot. He was taken to an area hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Meaderds said police do not yet know if this shooting is related to one that happened about 15 minutes later near Champaign Central High School at the end of a boys' basketball game, leaving at least three injured.
