Today's Special: Asian Noodle & Sushi opens in former Yellowfin space

CHAMPAIGN — Jin Chen has owned the successful Dynasty Asian Cuisine restaurant on South Grand Avenue in Springfield for many years.

So when her son enrolled at the University of Illinois, Chen decided it was time to open a second eatery in Champaign.

Asian Noodle & Sushi opened Nov. 27 in the former Yellowfin Japanese Restaurant space at 305 Cedar St.

"We have a very good recipe for noodles and soup and broth," said Chen, who grew up in China but has lived in the United States for more than 20 years. "We don't use MSGs in any of our foods."

MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is a flavor enhancer that has been linked to various health problems, such as headaches and allergic reactions.

She said the top draws so far at Asian Noodle & Sushi have been her spice noodles, bridge noodles and vegetable noodle soup.

Besides being close to her son, Chen said, opening in Champaign was a good idea because "the people here in Champaign are so nice."
