No one hurt in semi rollover at I-72/I-57 interchange

CHAMPAIGN — No one was injured Monday morning when a semitrailer rolled over while merging onto Interstate 72 from I-57.

According to a release from Illinois State Trooper Tracy Lillard, Steven McDonald, 45, of Olympia Fields was on the ramp from southbound I-57 to westbound I-72 about 8:30 a.m. Monday when he lost control of his truck. A trooper in the area saw him drive onto the right shoulder and the truck begin to sway, Lillard said. The truck then fell into the right-hand ditch and rolled onto its passenger side.

The truck was carrying large steel coils, and one of them broke loose and came to a rest in the ditch, Lillard said.

McDonald, who was wearing his seat belt, wasn’t injured. He was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
