Einstein Bros. Bagels opens location in UI Armory

CHAMPAIGN — For the first time, students will have something to snack on while at the University of Illinois Armory.

Einstein Bros. Bagels opened Tuesday at the Armory after numerous requests for a fresh-food option there.

"The Illini Union, in partnership with the Armory Administration, conducted a study in response to numerous requests for a fresh-food option in the Armory," said Lori Holmes, manager of vendor contracts for the Illini Union, in an email. "The study identified a large population of students, faculty and staff that worked and studied in the space and in the surrounding area that would benefit from a convenient portable fresh-food and beverage option."

A survey was taken to see what people wanted there, and students, faculty and staff said they wanted Einstein Bros.

"Einstein Bros. Bagels concepts have done extremely well wherever we have placed them," Holmes said.

There are now seven Einstein Bros. in the area, with five on or near the UI campus: at the Armory, the Veterinary Medicine building, the Siebel Center, the Illini Union and the corner of University and Lincoln avenues.

The other two are at Willard Airport and off of North Prospect Avenue.
