You won't likely see KEVIN SJUTS on the "SportsCenter" anchor desk or on the set for "Monday Night Football." Sjuts is good with that.

"I never had the goal of going to a big city or a big market," Sjuts said. "I always had a goal of wanting to be a guy that delivered the sports news each night in a very sports passionate area."

The St. Joseph-Ogden and UI alum has found a happy place in another Big Ten city. The sports anchor at CBS affiliate KOLN in Lincoln, Neb., recently shared the state's sportscaster of the year award with Nebraska play-by-play voice GREG SHARPE.

Who gets the trophy?

"Maybe he'll get one half and I'll get the other," Sjuts said.

It is the second state honor for Sjuts, who also won in 2013.

Sjuts spends the bulk of his time covering Nebraska sports. The program is on a roll, winning the volleyball national championship and playing well in men's and women's basketball.

"I credit the award and my career more toward what I cover than my individual performance," Sjuts said. "There is so much stuff that people here value."

Sjuts, 37, and his wife, MICHELLE, a former Nebraska basketball player, have three kids: BELLA, PAXON and KALE.

The Royal native was a big Illinois fan growing up.

"Back in the day, I did a story on JIM TURPIN," Sjuts said. "Being from the area and going to school there, I loved Illinois athletics and I still do. I was always fascinated with media locally."

Sjuts' mom, JAN, still lives in Royal. He has other relatives in the area.

On to my weekend recommendations:

"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," 10:30 p.m., CBS

Everybody else is showing repeats, though Colbert would likely be the pick regardless. Tonight's guests include actress Uma Thurman and comedian Jacob Williams.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC.

Hope you are watching what has been a great year for the iconic show. Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman returns for her second turn as host. Dua Lipa is the musical guest.

"This Is Us," 9:15 p.m., NBC.

For some reason, T.O.T.M. has never sampled the award winner. Time to try. NBC has been heavily promoting the post-Super Bowl show, which stars Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia.
