Candidate forums set next week in 6 local primary races

CHAMPAIGN — Candidates in six local primary elections will meet in forums next week at the Champaign City Building.

The forums are co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Champaign County, the NAACP and The News-Gazette. They'll be moderated by members of the League of Women Voters and governed by the traditional rules of League forums.

The three forums Monday night will begin with the two Republican candidates for Champaign County Clerk, Matt Grandone and Jon Rector, from 6:30 p.m. to about 7:15 p.m. There is no Democratic primary for county clerk.

That will be followed at 7:20 p.m. by a forum featuring the two Republican candidates for sheriff, Allen Jones and Greg Worrell. There is no Democratic primary for sheriff.

At 8:10 p.m. a forum featuring the two Democratic contenders in the 104th Illinois House District, Cynthia Cunningham and Frank McCullough, will be held. There is no Republican primary in the 104th District, which includes portions of Champaign and Vermilion counties and outlying areas of Champaign, Urbana and Savoy.

Three more forums will be held Wednesday night.

The first, at 6;30 p.m., will feature the three Democrats running in Champaign County Board District 6, incumbent Pattsi Petrie and challengers Mike Ingram and Charles Young. There is no Republican primary.

That will be followed at 7:20 p.m. by a forum featuring the two Democratic candidates in County Board District 10, Chris Stohr and Tanisha King-Taylor. There is no Republican primary.

The final forum will be the two Republican candidates for the Sixth Judicial Circuit seat once held by Judge Harry Clem: Randy Rosenbaum and Sami Anderson. There is no Democratic primary.
