Man arrested over loaded gun on train

URBANA — A man who carried a loaded gun on a train is expected to be formally charged with a weapons offense on Monday.

Assistant State's Attorney Tim Sullivan said Isiah Easter, 20, who said he was homeless but from Mattoon, was arrested about 7:15 p.m. Friday at the Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign.

Sullivan said Champaign police had received a tip that Easter was on the train and armed. They stopped him when he got off and found the gun and a loaded magazine for it.

They also found a plastic bag with suspected heroin residue on him.

Easter admitted to police that the gun was his but that he did not have a firearm owner's identification card for it. He said he received it as a gift and carried it for protection because he is homeless, Sullivan said.

Judge Adam Dill set Easter's bond at $10,000.

Sullivan said Easter will likely be charged Monday with unlawful use of weapons and possession of a weapon without a firearm owner's identification card.

Take his gun, any money he may have, put him back on the train and send him back where he came from!  C-U already has plenty of homeless drug addicts.

Guess he’s not homeless now.
