With BRIAN BARNHART in New York for the Big Ten basketball tournament, two veteran voices of The News-Gazette will fill in for him on "A Penny For Your Thoughts" on WDWS 1400-AM.

On Thursday, TOM KACICH will be behind the mic from 9 to 11 a.m. On Friday, it's MARY SCHENK's turn. WDWS veteran JIM LEWIS will join both of them.

Kacich, a regular guest on WDWS' "Morning Show," will chat up Champaign city planner T.J. BLAKEMAN and former U.S. Rep. TIM JOHNSON. Kacich first dabbled in radio as an undergrad at Illinois State, where he graduated in 1974.

Schenk landed a part-time job at WDWS during her senior year at the UI in 1979. She was hired full-time in 1980 and stayed on the radio side of our business until transitioning to The News-Gazette in 1983. Her timely guests include University of Illinois police spokesman PAT WADE at 9, followed by Champaign attorney MARK LIPTON later that hour. At 10, CHRIS PROM of the UI Archives will talk about milestones in UI history and other fun facts. (Friday is Unofficial St. Patrick's Day and the 150th anniversary of the first day of classes).
