Danville sets job fair March 10 for seasonal city work

DANVILLE — The city of Danville is hosting a job fair to recruit seasonal workers for various positions in its public works department.

These positions include household and landscape waste collection; maintenance of roadways, right-of-ways and grounds; improvements in city parks and other public properties; upkeep of grounds at the city-owned Harrison Park Golf Course; lifeguard work at the municipal pool; and sanitary-sewer operations.

City officials said the purpose of the fair is to educate and inform potential candidates about opportunities and the skill sets desired and assess whether prior staff will be returning and in what capacity.

The job fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 10 at the Public Works facility, 1155 E. Voorhees St.

Consideration for openings is based on the following requirements:

— Must have valid Illinois driver's license with good driving record.

— Must have high school diploma or GED (must provide certificate if interviewed for a position), or if still in school, must be 16 or older to work at the municipal pool and at least 18 to operate equipment.

— Must be able to pass a background check.

— Must have good work record and demonstrate sufficient communication skills.

These positions do not include benefits. Participation in the job fair or prior employment with the city does not guarantee that an individual will be hired.
