SPRINGFIELD — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, viewed as a possible Democratic Party contender for president in 2020, has endorsed Betsy Londrigan of Springfield in the five-way Democratic primary in Illinois' 13th Congressional District.

"With every mile of the 25,000 that Betsy Dirksen Londrigan has put on her car during her campaign, she has proven she will be a fearless advocate for women in Congress, and I am proud to stand with her and endorse her campaign," Gillibrand said. "I am confident that with every vote Betsy takes, she will be our voice in Congress and fight to give hardworking women and girls the opportunities and justice they deserve."

Gillibrand's Off the Sidelines political action committee is also supporting Londrigan. So far in this election cycle, the PAC has given $157,000 to female House candidates and $90,000 to female Senate candidates, according to the website OpenSecrets.org.

Londrigan's campaign has also been endorsed by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, EMILY's List, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and the United Steel Workers.
