Weekend Planner | They're on the hunt

Children with special needs and their brothers and sisters will gather at Prairie Farm, 2202 W. Kirby Ave., C, this afternoon for the Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation Program's Sensory Egg Hunt.

CUSR was created in 1985 through a cooperative agreement with the Champaign and Urbana park districts to provide year-round recreational opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.

Today's event starts at 1 p.m. and is for kids ages 2 to 10. Here's more via staff writer Tim Mitchell:

Event Coordinator GRACE ROLNICKI said egg hunters should bring a basket and be prepared to search high and low through the farm for colorful eggs. In an effort to meet the needs of the participating children, these special eggs feature sounds and textures.

Rolnicki said the event is only for children who registered prior to last week's deadline in order for park district staff to prepare enough eggs for the boys and girls.

After the Sensory Egg Hunt has been completed, participants will enjoy treats and take part in a social time.
