Police on scene of 2 crashes — 1 fatal — on I-57 between Champaign, Paxton

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois state police are on the scene of two crashes late Wednesday on Interstate 57 between Champaign and Paxton.

Trooper Tony Micele said the first crash, which involves a fatality, occurred after 11 p.m. in the southbound lanes at milepost 252.5, about 2.5 miles north of the Rantoul exit, and forced the closure of the right lane. The left lane remains open.

The second wreck, which Micele said involves semi rollover with injuries, happened a bit later in the northbound lanes near milepost 243, about 3 miles north of the Market Street exit in Champaign.

Micele warned drivers in the area to use caution and expect delays. Further details were not yet available.

This is a developing story.

"Trooper Tony Micele said the first crash, which involves a fatality, occurred after 11 p.m..."

Trooper Tony Micele said the first crash, which involved a fatality, occured after 11 p.m.

"The second wreck, which Micele said involves semi rollover with injuries, happened a bit later..."

The second wreck, which Micele said involved (a) semi rollover with injuries (to the driver and/or passenger?), happened a bit later.

I get that this is kind of a throwaway story that will get buried with all the other content, but good lord this was painful to read. Please edit and catch the switching of past and present tenses, and a well placed "a" certainly makes a sentence make a lot more sense.
