CHAMPAIGN — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help identifying and finding the man who allegedly threatened a Walmart security guard with a knife earlier this month.

At about 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, a man was seen hiding merchandise under his clothing in the store at 2610 N. Prospect Ave., C., police said.

As he left the building, a guard tried to stop him, but the suspected thief displayed a knife and threatened the guard. The man ran and got into a white sport utility vehicle.

He is described as a male, in his 40s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Police ask that anyone with information to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS, visit 373tips.com or through a free application for smart phones called P3 Tips. Tipsters are always completely anonymous when contacting Crime Stoppers.

All tips submitted are electronically stripped of any identifying information and processed by a third-party answering service, not law enforcement.

Cash rewards of up to $1,000 are paid for information leading to an arrest.

Tipsters will never be asked their names and are given a secret code number to use when checking on a possible reward.
