Krannert sets preview for 2018-19 Youth Series on May 2

URBANA — Next month, area teachers, school administrators, PTA members and youth advocates can get a preview of Krannert Center's 2018-19 Youth Series season and place orders for the upcoming school year.

The free event is set for 4 to 6 p.m. May 2. Refreshments will be served.

There will be information tables to learn more about public engagement and outreach programming from University of Illinois art partners, including Krannert Art Museum, Spurlock Museum, the UI School of Music, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerts, Lyric Theatre at Illinois, Dance at Illinois, Illinois Theatre, Global Arts Performance Initiatives, Sinfonia da Camera, Sousa Archives and the Center for Global Studies.

Bridget Lee-Calfas, the publicity director Krannert Center, pointed out that for the Youth Series, "we never charge more than $5 for tickets and so we rely on donors and sponsors to help underwrite these programs and even sponsor whole classes/schools to keep these programs accessible to everyone in our community."

She added, "it really takes a community who values these experiences for our children to keep them going — and that has been happening at Krannert Center for over 35 years now."

Visitors can enter to win tickets to Krannert and take advantage of a 10 percent discount at its gift shop, Promenade.

But primarily, "it's important for non-educators to know and care about these, because then they help advocate for them to teachers and administrators, encouraging these programs to be a priority for field trips, bus fees" and other costs, Lee-Calfas said.

RSVPs are requested by April 27.
