Police seeking white van used in Ivesdale tavern burglary

IVESDALE — Burglars went to a lot of trouble last week to steal a gaming payout machine from an Ivesdale tavern.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson said deputies responded to an alarm at Bridget's Blarney Stone, 207 Chapin Street, about 4 a.m. Friday, April 20.

They found the window broken out of the front door, which was wide open, Apperson said.

"You can see drag marks coming out the door. We're speculating they used some kind of straps to secure the machine into the van, which didn't work out very well," he said.

The machine was dumped not far down the road.

Video from a nearby business and a woman who was out walking her dog helped deputies identify a white mini-van used in the heist.

"The witness hears noises ... and sees a white van dragging an unknown item behind it in the gravel alley behind her home. The rear hatch of the van was up," he said.

Apperson did not have an estimate of the damage to the tavern or the machine. He said the thieves were not able to get cash from it.

Anyone with information on the break-in and theft is asked to call the sheriff's office at 384-1213 or contact Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477, 373tips.com, or through a free app for smart phones called P3 Tips. Tipsters are always completely anonymous when contacting Crime Stoppers.
