Health Alliance aiming to maintain service while moving to Carle at the Fields

CHAMPAIGN — Service is expected to continue without disruption for Health Alliance Medical Plans as the company and its 475 employees relocate.

The insurer's move to the new Carle at the Fields development at Curtis Road and Interstate 57 got underway last week, according to Health Alliance Vice President of Corporate Communications Jane Hayes.

Employees are being relocated from three locations, with the majority coming from offices in Urbana's Lincoln Square. Others currently work at two Champaign sites, at 201 Devonshire Drive and 206 W. Anthony Drive.

In-person customer service at Lincoln Square was recently discontinued, Hayes said, with a sign there now directing anyone looking for such help to the Anthony Drive site.

Some staff will remain at the Anthony Drive offices to handle in-person help for Medicare and individual (as opposed to employer plan) coverage members and prospective members, she said.

Longer-range plans call for a retail area for walk-in business to be added to the new Carle at the Fields campus, Hayes said.

The Health Alliance move is being staggered to minimize the chance for disruptions, and that's taken a lot of planning, she said.

"It's gone so well, it's amazing," she said.

That's included relocation of Health Alliance call centers.

"We didn't have many paper files to move," Hayes said. "We'd made the effort before the move to digitize as much as we could, so we were able to dispose of a lot of paper," she said.

With the remaining paper records, the company took special care to protect confidential patient health information, down to transporting the documents in their own secure truck, according to Sinead Madigan, Health Alliance's vice president of government business lines and interim compliance office.

Health Alliance is moving into a recently completed, 300,000-square-foot administrative building that will also hold Carle administrative staff being relocated from several leased office sites.

Construction is also underway on buildings where medical services will be provided, including one for the current Carle-Christie Clinic outpatient surgery center and two new Carle and Christie medical office buildings.
