Probation for man in stolen car

URBANA — A Rantoul man who admitted he possessed a stolen car that got into a wreck last summer has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Elijah Green, 20, whose last known address was in the 1500 block of Park Drive, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Heidi Ladd.

Green was a passenger in a car that got into a wreck in the parking lot in the 500 block of North Mattis Avenue in Champaign on Aug. 9. The victim saw the car about an hour later and called police.

Champaign police located the driver, Larry Gill, 23, of Urbana, and learned that the car had been stolen from the 600 block of South Race Street in Urbana two months earlier.

Green was also ordered to perform 100 hours of public service.

On Sept. 1, Gill pleaded guilty in the same case to felony theft and was sentenced to two years of probation and time served.
