Today is Sunday, May 20, 2018. Here are local news reports from 100, 50 and 15 years ago:

In 1918, three women died when an Illinois Central locomotive hit a car at the north railroad crossing in Tolono.

In 1968, inmates Frank Hahn of Urbana and Morris McMahon of Seymour pried apart several bars in their cellblock, went down a catwalk, hacked a hole in the ceiling to reach the attic, tore open the roof, climbed onto the roof, jumped to the roof of the courthouse annex and jumped to the ground to escape from the Champaign County Jail.

In 2003, Alan Warren Adams and Fatima Al-Mazrui, both of Champaign, faced federal charges accusing them of selling a submachine gun.
