Tolono man charged with child molestation

URBANA — A 34-year-old Tolono man has been charged with sexually molesting a child over a period of years.

If convicted of the most serious charges, Dusten Jenkins faces 12 to 120 years in prison.

Jenkins, who listed an address on North Bourne Street, was arrested by Champaign police in Kankakee on Thursday. They had been looking for him to talk to him about allegations made by his alleged victim about two weeks ago.

Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said the girl, who is under 13, revealed to a counselor that Jenkins had been touching her inappropriately.

A forensic interview of the child revealed that the alleged abuse took place between about 2013 and 2015. Clark said the professional interviewer and police collected enough information for the state to charge Jenkins on Friday with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Clark said Jenkins reportedly told the child not to tell anyone about what he was doing because it was illegal and that she could get in trouble.

Judge John Kennedy set Jenkins' bond at $150,000 and told him to be back in court Aug. 7.
