Burnham Mansion's new home would be one block to east

CHAMPAIGN — The Burnham Mansion will be spared, after all.

Christopher Enck, the Winnetka preservationist who planned to relocate the historic house, emailed Unit 4 officials Monday evening to confirm that he'd secured a new home for the mansion.

It will be moved just a block from its current home at 603 W. Church St. to 501 W. Church St., a lot next to Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home and across the street from West Side Park that has stood vacant since the Fleetwood Building was demolished in November 2016.

A map of the potential move is below:

Enck bought the mansion from the district for $10 last month. As part of the deal, Unit 4 has pledged $50,000 that would have gone toward demolishing the mansion to help with the move.

July 15 remains Enck’s deadline to move the house out of the path of the expansion on Champaign Central High School.
