In 1918, County Food Administrator R.D. Burnham banned drugstores and confection stores from selling ice cream cones made from wheat flour on Mondays and Wednesdays as part of the war effort.

In 1968, Parkland College presented its first graduates with awards at a ceremony in the auditorium of the Jefferson Building in Champaign. Approximately 20 students were expected to receive certificates for completing various one-year programs at the college.

In 2003, Raymond D. Broderick was named the new principal at Schlarman High School.
